Economy

Low on fossil fuels, led to early experiments with nuclear energy that failed. Eventually settled on geothermal, hydroelectric, and wind power. They tend to take a quality over quantity approach due to the occasional branch of the storm moving over them and destroying lesser constructions. No cars, so lots of trains. Generally flag terrain is used to primarily farm rice and beans. Coastal fishing is a fairly large industry and provides most of the meat contents of the people’s diet. Most coastal towns have offshore wind farms set up which provide consistent and reliable power to the cities.

Niueyjar's primary sources of energy are geothermal, hydroelectric and wind power. The island's lack of natural resources means that fossil fuels cannot be used. There were experiments with nuclear energy in 18 TT, although these failed catastrophically and resulted in a blah blah blah nuclear zone. The accident began with failures in the non-nuclear secondary system followed by a stuck-open pilot-operated relief valve (PORV) in the primary system that allowed large amounts of nuclear reactor coolant to escape. The mechanical failures were compounded by the initial failure of plant operators to recognize the situation as a loss-of-coolant accident (LOCA). TMI training and procedures left operators and management ill-prepared for the deteriorating situation. During the event these inadequacies were compounded by design flaws, including inconveniently arranged instruments and controls, the use of multiple similar alarms, and a failure of the equipment to clearly indicate coolant inventory level or the position of the stuck-open PORV.

Following the calming of the seas and the end of the Niueyjara Civil War Empress Heidr Gullveigdaughter of Clan Kalifen laid out a plan to leverage Niueyjar's large population and highly urbanized and industrialized nature to turn it into the manufacturing hub for all of Attu. She also began work to turn the Niueyjara Krone into Attu's primary currency for international trade.

History

Many clans with complex strings of alliances stuck in constant war. The High Priest calls all familial heads to the temple to compete in trial after vision from The Dragon saying that he has chosen one of them to rule. When one is chosen their allies rally behind them and conquer the clans that resisted. In following centuries the ruling family became more entrenched, eventually reaching their untouchable status in the modern day. Due to limited reach and view of the world their scientific understanding is patchy with religion filling in the gaps and largely being viewed as distinct from science. Since the industrial revolution some of the clans have started to move to a more secular view of the world with many other clans becoming more religious in response. They are in a heated rivalry that many fear could break into a civil war at any moment.

Religion

The Dragon was the first being, he flew for 7 eternities above the endless skies. After 7 eternities of flying the dragon grew weary of his endless journey. The Dragon rooted down and became a tree to rest his body and mind. After 12 Eternities of rest another being came into existence, the enemy. Upon encountering The Dragon, the enemy and the Dragon got into a fight. The battle was legendary with the many leafy limbs of the Dragon all wielding swords to fight off the enemy’s attacks. The results of this battle are unclear, but in the fighting the dragon’s wings began to beat so quickly that they brought about an unending storm. The storm caused some of the limbs of the tree to fall off becoming the 13 islands (6 great, 7 lesser). The Dragon wasn’t slain as evidenced by his twin eyes still watching over the world from above (sun and sun-like weather phenomena). The enemy is still thought to be out there which is why the dragon hasn’t stopped beating his wings. The ancient ancestors of the Siufotur settled on the greatest of the limbs and became The Dragon's chosen people. The temple to the dragon is in the capital city, the priesthood of the dragon is very secretive and highly respected. They only intervene in the affairs of laymen when they feel the events are “disrupting The Dragon’s focus.” They haven’t done so since the Emperor was chosen for them at the end of the Age of Conflict. After the calming of the seas the younger eye of the dragon broke and shattered into near uncountable pieces causing a split between the clans with some believing that the dragon defeated the enemy while the others felt the dragon was wounded in it's fight.

It should be noted that much of the actual practices and day to day beliefs of the Siufotur are dictated by their folklore rather than by the centralized religious beliefs
