Pitball is an Akarian sport.

Rules

Pitball's modern rules are defined by Amkar's 1st Dictate.

Setup and objective

A game of pitball is played in a circular pit, alcoves are carved into the walls of the pit. The goal of the game is to get the ball into the opposing teams' alcoves whilst protecting your own team's alcove. The ball is only able to be hit with a large paddle.

Teams

There is no limit to the number of teams allowed to take part so long as the alcoves are evenly distributed. Each team is composed of five players. One of the players must be the teams warden, who is in charge of the management of the team.

Scoring

Scoring is done via getting the ball into the opposing team's alcove. In a two team match one ball in an alcove point gets one point. At the end of a match the team with the fewest points is declared the loser.

When a goal is scored in a match with multiple teams a point is awarded to the team that scored it, determined by who last struck the ball (disregarding the blows of the scored upon team) and a "mark against" is given to the scored upon team. At the end of a the team with the least points and the team with the most marks against are declared the losers.

Match length

A match is one hour long, time starting from when the ball is dropped into the pit. At any point during the match a break may be called if the warden's of the majority of the teams playing call for a break which is done through the wardens shouting "break". The break ends as soon as a majority of wardens shout "end of break".

Pitball events

The largest pitball related event is the Pitball Championships, which is a competition that pits the members of the Pitball League against each other.
