The Living King, is the spiritual leader of Mirroi, and serves as the head of state of the Kingdom of Akaria. The current Living King is Harakar Oken, who was elected on 30-10 2 TT.

According to Kadarist tradition, the title of Living King was created by Kadar on 30-10 1795 TT to describe himself after his merger with the Living Spirit. In ancient times, the Living Kings helped spread Mirroi by leading the armies of Akaria against non-Kadarist foes. In the times leading up to the seas calming the Living King's duties were limited to resolving disputes between osslettes and partaking in ceremonial activities.

Following the grand calming the Living King, as sovereign of Akaria gained direct authority over all matters taking place beyond the shores of the island nation.

History

Origins

Historically the title of Living King was believed to have been created by Kadar on 30-10 1795 TT to describe himself after his merger with the Living Spirit. On 18-3 44 TT the Ossbosche Assembly voted to permit the Oceanic Council to release almost all documents that once belonged to the Weer Nation. These documents revealed that the title of Living King only began being used following Ekank of the Deram's takeover of the Akarinian Confederation on 15-10 1678 TT.

During the Akarinian Confederation

During its early days, the Akarinian Confederation was a loose tribal confederation with very little codified law defining the exact powers and responsibilities of the Living King. During this time the Living King's power shifted from absolute to virtually none. The process of codifying the powers and responsibilities of the Living King began shortly after the ascension of the Weer-educated Kamore Deram on 23-2 1630 TT.

In 1198 TT the Andu Kur began building up their military. On 20-5 1198 TT the Living King at the time, Matart of the Kakay announced that the confederation would undertake massive reforms to counter Andu aggression. These reforms would lead to the Akarinian Confederation being reorganised into the Kingdom of Akaria on 19-1 1196 TT.

Pre-calming

During the process of creating the Kingdom of Akaria, Matart had to give up a sizable portion of the Living King's power to the Ossbosches who ruled the osslettes that were Akaria's new internal regions. These new powers included the ability to assemble upon the death of the Living King to choose the next living king from among those nominated by the Kadrikes. The power of the Ossbosches in this early era of the Kingdom was still very limited.

On 21-8 594 TT Living King Arikarin Deram used the Living Army to remove the Ossbosche of East Able from his position. The deposed Ossbosche of East Able, Amarkil Arkara asked his second cousin, the Ossbosch of Saeskar to help him get back into power. The Ossbosch of Saeskar, Makaro Arkara began contacting other members of the Arkara. On 29-10 594 TT Makaro had the sizable army he had assembled begin a march for East Able beginning the Able War. During the war, the Banokan, Perat and Kakay directly supported the Arkara as a part of the Anti-Deram Coalition. The Arkara and their allies managed to breach the Tumak Ordok on 26-2 591 TT. During the battle for the ordok Arikarin was killed with his remaining forces surrendering soon after. The Anti-Deram Coalition had won the war. The heads of the Arkara, Banokan, Kakay and Perat families met in the Tumak Ordok on 26-3 591 TT along with the heads of the more minor families who had joined the Anti-Deram Coalition. For the next four days they worked on changing certain aspects of the Akarian Government. The largest change made was the creation of the Ossbosche Assembly, a council composed of the country's Ossbosches. The Ossbosche Assembly was granted the power to veto almost any action made by the living king via a two-thirds vote so long as the action directly affected the osslettes. The Ossbosches themselves were also given greater protection from the Living King, with the king now no longer being able to revoke them or interfere with the individual laws of the osslettes. A more minor but equally important change was elevating the Arkara to the position of Kadrike. The Ossbosche Assembly declared Makaro Arkara Living King on 28-4 591 TT.

Calming and Post-Calming

On 18-1 1 PC the seas calmed in the event called the Grand Calming. The calming opened up Akaria to the other nations of the Attu Archipelago. In the years in between the end of the Able War and the Grand Calming the Living King had mostly became a religious and ceremonial role with the Ossbosches holding the real power in the country. But Ossbosches and by extension the Ossbosche Assembly only had power within the osslettes which encompassed the majority of Akaria. As there were no osslettes outside of Akaria the Living King had absolute authority over anything that took place beyond the Isle of Akaria. This reestablished the Living King as an important figure within Akarian politics.
