Biography
Early life
Bartan Bonakan was born on 18-2 1351 TT to the eventual Leader of the Banokan, Antok Banokan. During the reign of the Living King, Emachium Mikare the Mikare had a falling out with the rest of the Brinor Perikat. When Emachium died on 14-3 1331 TT the Deram, Banokan and Garvak wanted Antok to succeed him as Living King. The Mikare however wanted the successor to be a closer relative of the Mikare. An agreement was reached on 29-3 1331 TT. Bartan became the Living King and in exchange married Yaichon Mikare who he was to retain as his only wife.
Living King
Emachium had spent the majority of his reign away from Ablesken at his palace in Mida. During this period of neglect, many across the Akarinian Confederation had begun to question the foresight of the Living Kings. Throughout the Akarinian Confederation's history there had always been a few people who questioned the unwritten doctrine of Mirroi but there were never enough of them to threaten the institution of the Living King until Emachium's reign.
Shortly after taking power Bartan, with the help of several ossbosches, began writing a new version of the Bakoro, a book on Karinian beliefs. The new version would serve as a unified description of Mirroi. Bartan's 7th Dictate was issued on 22-2 1328 TT. The dictate handed over control of the Living Press to the ossbosches who were to use the press to create and distribute copies of the 2nd Bakoro.
Though the new Bakoro helped to unify the Mirroites it did little to change the minds of those who already doubted the foresight of the Living King. Bartan attempted to resolve this again on 5-12 1324 TT when he issued his 17th Dictate. The dictate granted the ossbosches the right to punish those who acted against what was taught in the Bakoro.
Bartan helped negotiate the entry of the Kakay into the new Banosken Perikat which they did on 14-7 1285 TT.
On 17-8, 1267 TT Bartan's 43rd Dictate was issued. The dictate instructed, that upon Bartan's death, the ossbosches were to write a 3rd version of the Bakoro detailing his accomplishments as Living King, but rescending any failings. This was to be repeated with any subsequent Living Kings. Bartan died less than a year later on 17-6 1268 TT.
