Biography

Early life and ancestry

Umanay Deram was born in Durantum, Kingdom of Akaria. At the time of his birth, his grandfather Koltonoi was the Leader of the Deram. During Umanay's life, his father and brother would serve as the Leader of the Deram.

High Director of the Living Army

On 6-9 1120 TT Umanay Deram married Kotupe Perat, daughter of Living King Garikoph Perat. On 13-10, 1120 TT Garikoph made Umanay High Director of the Living Army and announced that he would serve as his second in command during the upcoming invasion of the Andu Kur, now known as the Andu Subjugation.

The war began on 15-2 1110 TT with Garikoph's forces entering the Andu Kur the Mikare Kadrike. During the first year of the war, Umanay led the Living Army alongside Garikaph and his other forces. Late into 1109, TT Garikoph left Umanay in charge of the bulk of the invasion forces so that he could personally oversee the naval invasion of the Zomok Plain. Garikoph was wounded in an accident on 18-7 1108 TT, leaving Umanay in charge of the entire invasion force.

King Urdono of the Andu Kur was captured by the Living Army on 27-2 1105 TT. Urdono was taken to his now-occupied capital of Aesdu where he was personally executed by Garikoph on 7-3 1105 TT. After the execution, Garikoph issued his 36th Dictate annexing the Andu Kur and placing the "Warden of the Andu" in charge of the new land. Umanay was chosen to serve as the first Warden of the Andu.

In an attempt to convert the Andu to Mirroi Umanay wrote the Andu Bakoro which reinterpreted Andu beliefs and traditions through a Mirroite lens. This book was distributed to all major Andu cities.

Living Election

Garikoph's death on 9-12 1163 TT triggered the 4th Living Election. The ruling Bosken Perikat had recommended Boikokok Lakar as the next Living King, However, Hotak Boloi, Ossbosche of the Bojin suggested that Garikoph had been preparing Umanay to succeed him. Though most of the electors did not believe Hotak's theory they recognised that Umanay, as High Director of the Living Army, might try to overthrow whoever they elected and his popularity would ensure that the Living Army followed his word. Umanay was elected Living King on 6-5 1103 TT.

Early reign

Despite the Deram not being a part of the Bosken Perikat, Umanay still consulted with the members of the forming ruling perikat.

Umanay's 1st Dictate, issued on 11-5 1103 TT recognised the Andu Bakoro as a religious text equal to the mainstream Bakoro and adopted an official policy of attempting to convert the Andu to Mirroi for eventual integration into the Kingdom of Akaria.

Elective reform

On 10-9, 1099 TT whilst addressing a crowd in Wayok Park, someone fired at Umanay with a handheld omtarre cannon. The primary fire stream missed Umanay and soon engulfed the raised platform Umanay had been speaking from. The crowd soon fell into chaos allowing the culprit to escape. Umanay survived the attack unharmed, though many had been trampled during the panic.

An investigation into the identity of the would-be assassin began immediately. However, a suspect could not be found due to a lack of physical evidence and witness discrepancies. On 27-9 1098 TT whilst attending a dinner in Todak, Parikok Lakar told Umanay that his brother Boikokok, Leader of the Lakar had ordered his death. Umanay ordered the Combkar Tower searched and found a barrel containing omtarre residue with the same composition as residue found in Wayok Park. Boikokok Lakar was arrested on 12-10 1098 TT and executed the following day. Parikok replaced his brother as the Leader of the Lakar

Tobutai, Leader of the Bokok condemned the execution claiming that Parikok and Umanay had framed Boikokok for the attack. Umanay chose to take no action against Tobutai over this claim despite several of his advisors including his brother Hekur recommending it.

On 18-2 1096 TT whilst walking to his carriage Umanay was ambushed by an assassin whom Umanay managed to subdue. At the same time, Parikot Lakar was thrown to his death from the top of the Combkar Tower. The man who attacked Umanay was revealed to have been Otok Bokok, son of Tobutai, who was subsequently arrested. Both Otok and Tobutai were executed on 28-2 1096 TT. A likely apocryphal story claims that Umanay spoke to Tobutai moments before his execution. He told Umanay that he wanted him dead because he thought that he would create one ossbosche for one major populated area as his great-great-grandfather Hortank had proposed. On 19-4, 1096 TT Umanay issued his 19th Dictate dissolving the previous Kadrike-based ossbosches and creating new ossbosches based around population centres.

Death

Umanay died on 9-6 1078 TT while visiting his family in Durantum.
