Biography

Early life

Ara Deram was born on 7-6 17 TT in Dokaim. He was educated by his father and his five uncles.

Ara's father Horokokok Deram became Leader of the Deram in 11 TT.

Ambush in the Andu lands

In mid-3 PC, Ara Deram joined his father as a part of a convoy traveling to the Deram outpost of Minokaim in the Andu Lands, leading the convoy was Ara's uncle, Warden of the Andu, Harotok Deram. On 17-5 3 PC, the convoy came under attack by the Dosso Dur. Horokokok was killed early into the attack and Harotok was shot and presumed dead. Ara took control of the situation and ordered the party to withdraw back to the Deram Kadrike.

New roles

Ara swore revenge against the Dosso Dur, upon his return the Deram Kadrike. The Council of Restoration named Ara Leader of the Deram on 25-5 3 PC. They went on to name him Warden of the Andu on 18-6 3 PC.

Proposed alliance with the Perat

In late 7 PC, Ara began exchanginig letters with Leader of the Perat, Storm Perat. Storm was displeased the way Living King, Harakar Oken was running the country and expressed that he felt that it was he who deserved to lead Akaria and that the Arkara and the Oken, who he insisted were the Arkara's allies, stole that chance away from him. Ara knew that the Arkara and the Oken were not allies in the slightest, but did not turn up the chance to try to restore the old Deram-Perat Alliance and acted as though he believed Storm. On 8-10 7 PC additional mineral resources began flowing from the Deram Kadrike into the Perat Kadrike to be used in constructing arms for the Perat Army.

On 17-2 8 PC the Dakota Mine collapsed due to a revolt of the mine's Andu slaves. Ara's uncle Arikarok Deram was among the dead. Ara met with Harakar, Storm and Scribe to the Living King, Lightning Perat on 23-5 8 PC, as Harakar had wanted do discuss the mine's collapse and he had recruited Storm to bring him to Ara. The meeting went poorly as a fight broke out after Storm called Arikarok a coward. Ara ended up breaking Storm's pelvis and Lightning, who had come to the defense of his grandfather, had broke Ara's jaw. It was only through Harakar's intevention that they all survived the incident. The next day all trade ties between the Perat and the Deram were severed. The Deram made up for this on 29-8 8 PC with the creation of trade deals with the Oken.

Andu Cube

The Deram Army found a mysterious artifact that came to be known as the Andu Cube whilst patrolling the Thesda Range on 24-6 9 PC. The object was collected and sent Ara, who, being unable to open it, sent it to Harakar.

Akarian Civil War

On 7-3 10 PC, the Dakota Mine, now owned and run by the Oken, reopened using hired Karinians for labour instead of enslaved Andu as it had previously used. By tradition Karinians were not supposed to be used to mine with that job being reserved for the enslaved Andu, as such the use of Karinians in the mine was kept secret. Ara, was one of the few who knew Karinians were used in the mine, and opposed their use, but still maintained the secret to avoid the Oken and Deram's mutual rivals from using that information against them. Ara met with Harakar in Dokaim on 11-9 10 PC, the first Living King to visit the city. During the meeting Harakar convinced Ara that it was in their best interests to have Karinian's work in the mine and established the informal Deram-Oken Alliance.

On 6-1 16 PC, the Deram purchased modern mining equipment from Niueyjar with the intent of phasing out slave labour and replacing it with paid labour using modern industrialised mining techniques. Leader of the Arkara, Artak Arkara reacted to this on 13-1 16 PC by ordering the Arkara Army to move against the Deram, starting what would become the Akarian Civil War.
