Operation Vidar's Folly was a military operation undertaken by the Akaria-Utlia alliance between 9-12 2 PC and 7-3 4 PC in the Nation of Niueyjar. The operation was executed as an attempt to remove Vidar Astridson from power in Niueyjar.

Background

On 15-5 2 PC during the Niueyjara Civil War the Vidar Astridson –de facto leader of the Traditionalists– detained a group of Utlian sailors in an attempt to hide the civil war from the outside world starting Utlian Sailor Crisis. The leaders of the Akaria-Utlia alliance Harakar Oken and Yyme Braia elected to rescue the sailors through Operation Crab Rescue which successfully extracted the sailors on 20-5 2 PC.

During the operation, an Akaria-Utlia alliance ship travelled through a reef off the coast of Niueyjar. Vidar, who considered reefs to be the sacred home of the Cravik threatened to kill the family of whoever was responsible for the incursion. Threats from Astridson continued following the operation. Both Harakar Oken and Yyme Braia decided that to keep their nations safe they needed to get Vidar out of power.

Operation

The Akaria-Utlia alliance began arming the opposing side in the civil war –the Reformers– through Clan Norden on 9-12 2 PC.

Several precautions were put in place to protect the interests of the Akaria-Utlia alliance. To protect the weapons shipments, Harakar enlisted the use of the Akarian Navy to defend the Akarian Trade Fleet ships delivering the weapons. No up-to-date equipment was issued with the most recent firearm sent over being outdated by twenty-four years. Among the weapons sent to the Reformers were two dozen Saeskar Class Missiles which had been rigged to explode if tampered with.

On 7-3 4 PC Vidar Astridson was killed by an Akarian-made missile fired by members of Clan Helgen. The next day the the Akaria-Utlia alliance announced the operation's success and announced the suspencient of shipments to Norden, despite shipments having already been cut off by Clan Norden's defeat three days prior.

Analysis and aftermath

Despite the technological superiority of the Akarian weapons, the Reformers were unable to win the civil war, being defeated only eight days after the death of Vidar. A lack of training in how to effectively use the weapons in combat scenarios greatly contributed to this loss. The use of foreign aid negatively impacted the Reformers' cause among the Niueyjara and may have led to an inability to sway others to join them.

The death of Vidar led to Heidr Gullveigdaughter taking over as Niueyjar's international representative.
